Detroit Urban Renewal

Urban Design Study — Detroit, Michigan

Every city faces its own unique set of challenges. MA reimagines each large-scale environment and shows how improvements in design can overcome those challenges and impact how we live, work, and interact within urban areas.

Detroit currently faces an uncertain future. While this seems daunting, the existing condition of sparse density is an excellent and exciting opportunity for improving upon the city’s original design. These studies imagine how Detroit’s identity could change if communities became more centralized, or how planned green spaces—like an emerald necklace moving some of Michigan’s famed agriculture to an urban area—could change life in Motor City.

While the following images focus on providing specific solutions for Detroit, they are templates for MA’s work with any city.
