Vermillion Master Plan

Master Planning — Kanab, Utah

This site in southern Utah is an incredibly beautiful, untouched sandstone landscape near the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument and the Arizona border. The client desired an 18-hole golf course, luxury resort, and spa with supporting neighborhoods, served by an existing municipal airport.

Preserving the majority of the wilderness in its pure state, distinct community clusters dot the landscape. These small, walkable hamlets gather around a common commercial center, with opportunities for recreation and outdoor activities in between. For the golf course, rather than excavating the blue clay of the natural terrain and replacing it with resource-taxing turf, MA proposed celebrating this unique feature of the landscape, making it the only blue clay golf course in the world.
